Artist Statement
Andrée focuses her work on the human body. Using pastels and oils, she chooses to depict the body in nature, far from societal context. Since 2006, she began adding texture to her work by mixing techniques and medias. The texture symbolizes the lines of age, of experience, of inner beauty. Guided subconsciously and intuitively, she brings to the canvas with each different layer of colors, each nerve-like, almost organic stroke, the human being. Inspired by her social and physical environment, her recent work questions the ultra consummation of images in society where in one blink of the eye, an image should be immediately apparent, processed and consumed. These images depict human beings as ‘perfect beings’ or often ‘beautiful beings’ synonymous to often young, white and slim bodies. Her work challenges those images.
